Custom Shrink Caps

If you decide on a custom shrink cap there are a few key design decisions you will need to make, including if you want an open or closed cap, how you want your shrink cap to be removed from the bottle, and the diameter and length of your shrink cap.

  • Open Caps
    Open cap shrink caps do not have a top disc. This allows the cap of the stopper to peek through the opening. Open caps are perfect for highlighting custom printed stoppers.

    Closed Caps
    Closed cap shrink caps have an aluminum top disc which provides added structure to preformed shrink caps. Many automated bottling lines prefer closed cap shrink caps as they are less likely to stick together. Designs and logos can also be added to the top disc.

  • Horizontal Tear Tab
    Horizontal tear tabs are made of thin metal strips with a tab that sticks out. When the tear tab is pulled, the strip tears through the PVC plastic. This removes the top portion of the cap while leaving the skirt behind.

    Vertical Perforation
    Unlike the horizontal tear tab, a vertical perforation is made by serrating the PVC plastic. When the bottom of the perforation is pulled the capsule splits open completely removing the cap.

  • Preproduction samples are available for most custom shrink caps. Producing preproduction samples greatly increases the design time for a custom shrink cap. On average it takes 6-8 weeks for preproduction samples to be delivered.

    There is a production fee for pre-production samples which varies based on the specifics of the shrink caps.

  • The best way to send artwork is in an Illustrator file. This allows us to lift the color from the file rather than using a Pantone color.
